Job Title:           Principal IFM Receiver Design Engineer

Source of Supervision:   President & Chief Technology Officer

Department:       Engineering

POSITION SUMMARY:  Design, development and transition to production of Instantaneous Frequency Measurement (IFM) Receivers. This will include all aspects of IFM product technical support from bid & proposal through production release.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following (other duties may be assigned):

  • Review of customer requirements including electrical, mechanical and environmental constraints to determine feasibility and design approach.
  • Preparation of brief cost and technical compliance summaries for bid/no-bid decisions.
  • Electrical design and simulation of frequency measurement accuracy and associated parameters such as probability of detection in broadband, noisy and multi-signal electromagnetic environments over a wide dynamic range.
  • Preparation of compelling technical proposals for IFM products using commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) and proprietary technologies to achieve the best performance vs. cost possible.
  • All aspects of product documentation including bills of material (BOMs), routers, work instructions and test procedures.
  • Preparation for and leadership participation in design reviews. These will be customer-attended as well as internal reviews.
  • Participation in technical aspects of strategic planning for the IFM product line including generation and maintenance of a technology roadmap and R&D project plans.
  • Generation of source control documents (SCD’s) for broadband limiting amplifiers and similar RF, analog or digital components associated with IFM internal required functions.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • A proven track record of designing broadband IFM (sometimes called digital frequency discriminators or DFD’s) for defense systems operating in the 1 to 20 GHz frequency range.
  • A proven track record of transitioning such products into a production line that has produced IFM sub-systems at the rate of 10 to 20 per month on a continuous and profitable basis.
  • Proven leadership skills with the ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary groups.
  • Experience designing high speed digital signal processing (DSP) circuits that must operate reliably in harsh military environments.
  • Experience designing FPGA-based solutions.
  • Experience developing characterization and optimization algorithms necessary to align IFMs with minimal if any manual intervention.
  • Must have ability to attain security clearance; active security clearance preferred.
  • Understanding and experience with SPC, Design for Six Sigma, and related total quality management (TQM) practices.
  • BSEE required, (MSEE) preferred.
  • 5-10 + years of applicable experience.
